Fluctuations and irregularities in size and shape must be taken into account when portioning fish, meat and other foods. Embedded vision systems from Photonfocus do this by measuring the volume of the food through triangulation, thus providing a data foundation to calculate the weight and, if necessary, portion sizes. If desired, this calculation can be made at the highest speed and directly in the camera systems. Volume determination can also be used to specify the filling volumes in natural containers, for example when filling pastries.
Photonfocus SWIR sensors and embedded vision systems based on them also achieve optimum portioning results using machine vision. They analyze infrared radiation to provide a significantly greater data depth than when visible light is used. For example, fish and meat can be classified and portioned in accordance with their percentages of lean meat, fat and bones.
Photonfocus embedded vision systems for 2D/3D imaging with visible light or in the infrared spectrum are perfect for all portioning applications in the food industry.
